EthicsChat
Important: Tier access level permissions must be provided by an administrator for a user to use the EthicsChat feature.
EthicsChat is an anonymous, real-time chat tool that provides an open line of communication between users and reporters, shortening the investigative time line while still ensuring anonymity. Reporters and users can type in a secure chat room window.
There are no character limits for EthicsChat, and the chat session will be automatically closed if EPIM is idle for 30 minutes.
Note: You will not see Join Chat for data privacy cases.
Scheduling Chat Sessions with Reporters
- From the case menu, select Follow-ups and send a message to the reporter to arrange a mutually convenient time for your chat session.
- (Optional) Click
> Reminders to set a reminder for yourself. You will receive an email message one hour before the scheduled time.
Note: The reporter will not receive this reminder.
Starting or Joining Chat Sessions
When the appointed time for your chat session arrives, you can join the reporter in the chat room.
- From the case, click
> Join Chat to start a chat session or to join a session already in progress.
- Select a name to use in the chat room.
- Click Enter Chatroom.
Note: More than one investigator can join the chat from their own profile as long as they are aware of the time scheduled for the chat and can attend at the scheduled time.
Ending Chat Sessions
After completing your chat session with the reporter, you can end the chat and exit the chat room.

Within the chat box, select Log Off .

Click Close Window.

The chat transcript is saved in the Follow-ups section of the case, so that users and reporters can view it at a later date.
Note: Chat transcripts will not be saved unless both parties are present for the chat session.
